About the Disability Royal Commission

Multicap welcomes the commencement of the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability, which was announced by the Prime Minister and Minister for Families and Social Services on 5 April 2019.

It is critical to the future of people living with disability that their voices are heard at the highest level, to effect positive change for these members of our community who have been disadvantaged in so many ways in years gone by.

While we know that it may be painful to hear the stories that participants may share, we remain hopeful that the consequence of their bravery in coming forward will be a significant improvement to the regulation and standards within the disability sector going forward.

A Royal Commission is the highest form of inquiry on matters of public importance in Australia. The Royal Commission will assist the Government to look at what is not working as it should within the disability system, including its processes and frameworks and what can be done to improve the quality and safety of supports and services for people with disability.

Multicap values the unique insights and input of people with disability and looks forward to the positive changes this Royal Commission will bring about. We will continue to support our customers, their families and significant others, as well as our Multicap employees throughout this process.
