Capalaba Community Hub project delivers vibrant new outdoor space

Multicap Capalaba Community Hub attendees have been soaking up the last of the warmer months in their newly revamped outdoor area thanks to generous funding support.

The budding green thumbs received a grant from the Stronger Communities program to purchase gardening equipment, plants and brand–new outdoor furniture, bringing new life into the previously empty space.

Multicap Service Manager, Leo Brunker said it was exciting to see Hub attendees involved in the transformation process, with some even making a trip to Bunnings to purchase supplies.

“It was amazing to see so many individuals actively engage in making our space look beautiful,” said Leo.

“When I started at the Capalaba Community Hub, I went outside to the balcony and it was pretty bare. Now, tending to the space has become a daily highlight for many of the people we support. They take pride in watering and nurturing the plants.”

Member for Bowman, Henry Pike MP visited the Hub in March and was delighted to learn of the new gardening program that has since been launched.

Leo said the program helps participants to feel a sense of responsibility and build their confidence in caring for plants.

“Our staff members have been incredible, stepping up to support attendees in getting involved,” said Leo. “Even customers we didn’t expect to engage with the space are showing a genuine interest.”

“Together, we’re creating a vibrant and inclusive environment that enriches the lives of the people we support.”

The next project for Capalaba Community Hub attendees will be creating hanging macrame pots to further decorate the space.
