Volunteers at Multicap’s Rockhampton Community Hub play an essential role in creating a vibrant and supportive environment for people with disability.
Klyde volunteers three days a week, including two full weeks during the School Holiday Program, while he faced personal visa restrictions that prevent him from working in a paid capacity.
Despite these challenges, Klyde’s dedication to making a difference shines through, and his impact on the people he supports, and the broader team has been nothing short of remarkable.
Melissa Jarred, who oversees Rockhampton Community Hub’s Centre of Creative Arts (COCA) program, highly praises Klyde’s contributions.
“Klyde is a wonderful addition to our Hub where he actively engages with the people we support,” said Melissa.
One highlight of the week is Wednesday’s Hub Choir, an outdoor concert day that brings the community together for music and fun.
“This is a much-loved day of the week, and Klyde’s enthusiasm and passion for disability support work is on display to all who attend,” said Melissa.
“His energy and commitment are contagious, and his presence makes a real difference.”
Beyond the regular activities, Klyde’s involvement in the School Holiday Program has also made a lasting impact.
“Klyde is generous with his time at the School Holiday Program.
One of my favourite moments is observing Klyde share bonds with our younger attendees who enjoy participating in sensory activities, outdoor tailored sports, and music activities,” Melissa added.
“Klyde is an asset to our team, and we have enjoyed his smiling presence in our services.”
For Klyde, volunteering at Multicap is more than just a way to give back—it’s an opportunity to grow personally and professionally.
“I’m doing this volunteering because I’m not allowed to work as a normal staff member and I’m not allowed to earn money at the moment because of my visa restrictions,” Klyde explained.
“When my visa gets fixed, I would be happy to do my work as a staff member. In the meantime, it’s a pleasure for me to gain more experience and confidence as a volunteer.”
Klyde’s dedication and positive attitude have been a driving force behind his success at the Rockhampton Community Hub.
“It’s such a rewarding experience, and I love being part of it.”
As Multicap continues to create inclusive and supportive environments for all, volunteers are essential in fostering connections and enriching the lives of the people they serve.
