Laundretto increases capacity through community grant funding

Multicap social enterprise, Laundretto is operating new and improved equipment at its Banyo site, helping to increase capacity at the commercial laundromat.

Two washing machines have been replaced with state of the art, larger capacity models, including a combination unit, purchased with a grant from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund (GCBF).

Multicap Employment Operations Manager, Nick Ferre said integrating new equipment into the business helps to increase capacity and improve inefficiencies.

“From an operational perspective, increasing commercial capacity means we can provide more opportunities for the people we employ,” said Nick.

“Upgrading our machines creates a new and unique challenge for our supported employees, allowing them to learn new equipment and expand their transferrable skills.”

Currently, Laundretto provides services to food production companies One Harvest and Sunny Queen.

One Harvest Chief Executive Officer, Sam Robson said the organisation’s partnership with Multicap has gone from strength to strength since its formation in 2020.

“We are proud of our contribution to supporting people with disability to be employed and ultimately achieve their full potential,” said Sam.

“Laundretto is a win–win for us all.”

Free range egg producer, Sunny Queen is Laundretto’s latest client and requires services for around 150 production coats each day.

Nick said the new partnership has filled capacity and makes the business a more efficient operation.

“The Sunny Queen contract is exactly what Laundretto required to become more financially viable by ensuring there is a greater focus on ‘lean’ production processes,” said Nick.

“Utilising our existing vehicle and workforce efficiently to complete the logistical process for One Harvest and Sunny Queen has also been a success due to the close proximity of each business.”

Laundretto provides meaningful employment for people with disability and allows them to gain transferrable skills in customer service, laundry processing, quality assurance and logistics.
