When Nathan finished school, he wasn’t expecting to forge a career in the arts. But this month, Multicap CEO Simon Wright personally presented Nathan with a certificate of recognition, honouring his remarkable milestone and unwavering dedication to Monte Lupo Arts.

Nathan, now a senior member of the Monte Lupo team, has become a cornerstone of the studio’s culture.

“I never thought I would do art,” he said. “But I love coming to work.”

The certificate reads: “With heartfelt appreciation for your 25 years of creative dedication to Monte Lupo. Your artistry has not only enriched our community but has also inspired countless others through your vision, passion, and craftsmanship.”

Fresh out of TAFE in 2000 where he studied landscaping, cementing and art, he was employed as a ceramics assistant and hasn’t looked back.

Nathan works three days a week at the Eight Mile Plains studio and has various roles, from pouring moulds to slip painting sculptures ready for decorating.

He’s been part of numerous exhibitions and looks back fondly on the first time his work was exhibited. Nathan produced a series of glazed birds which were all sold.

But it’s not just the work and exhibitions that keeps Nathan happy in his job.

“It’s like a family coming into work, it’s like my second family,” he said. “It’s good to see everyone happy and working together, cause when we work together a lot of jobs get done and it’s good to help each other.”

As a senior member of the team now, Nathan has taken on the responsibility of fire warden and also enjoys the opportunity to help the new supported employees.

“It’s good being a senior at this workplace – I like to help the new ones,” he said. “And take initiative to show them, like when I started, and tell them they don’t need to be worried to come to work because everyone is happy here.”

Nathan says he’d like to one day take his skills and experience from the Monte Lupo Arts studio into another job in the open market, but for now he is happy being part of the Monte Lupo family.
