Youth Developmental Experience

Sunup and Sundown Program

Developing beyond the bell

Our Sunup and Sundown Program offers fun and engaging experiences and programs that extend beyond the classroom.

Morning and afternoon activities and nutritious food will have children ready to build friendships and create memories in a familiar school environment.

Learn through play with us

We encourage children attending our programs to engage in both indoor and outdoor play to support the development of social skills, physical and mental wellbeing, communication, fine and gross motor skills and resilience.

We will provide opportunities for participation in structured and planned daily activities aligned with our special school partners current term focus.

Our friendly team provides high quality support and supervision, and each child will be supported to engage in the activity in their own individual way.

How much does it cost?

Costs for supports are generally claimed through NDIS funding, however can be self-funded. Speak to our friendly team today to discuss your options.

There is an out-of-pocket cost of $2.50 for each session to cover breakfast or snacks.

We require a 12-week commitment to participate in the Sunup and Sundown program and two weeks’ notice is required for cancellation of bookings.

Frequently Asked Questions

What times are the program available?

Two sessions each day during school terms is available at the following times:

Currumbin Special School

  • Morning session: 6:45am to 8:45am
  • Afternoon session: 2:45pm to 5:45pm

Aspley Special School

  • Afternoon session: 2:30pm to 5:30pm

How do you record attendance and communicate with families?

We track children’s attendance at the program via an app called Daily Connect. Our team will use this app to send home any photos or feedback about your child and their day. You can also send messages to the team at any time using this tool.

Is there a minimum number of sessions I need to book my child in for?

No, you can opt to send your child to every session every day or you can book them in for one per week depending on your support needs.

What happens if I pick my child up early, do I still have to pay?

We operate in a similar way to a childcare service in that once you have selected a session you will be charged for the full session regardless of the drop off or pick up time. This allows us to ensure we have the right number of staff onsite to support all children attending that session.

My child doesn’t have NDIS funding how can I access the program?

We encourage you to get in touch with our team to discuss options available to you to access our program.

Is there an out-of-pocket cost and what does it cover?

There is a small out of pocket cost for each session ($2.50). This covers either breakfast (morning session) or an afternoon snack (afternoon session). If you were to book your child in for both the morning and afternoon session in a day, then the total out of pocket charge would be $5.

Out of pocket costs are charged at the end of the term and will be invoiced to you.

How do I change my child’s schedule during the term?

Please let us know as soon as you become aware of the change, and we can organise to update your schedule of support to ensure that the right amount of funding is allocated, and we have the appropriate staff rostered.

What food is provided?

Breakfast options include foods such as: toast, cereal, porridge, and fruit.

Afternoon snack options include foods such as: fruit and vegetables, crackers and cheese, popcorn, sandwiches, muffins.

Is there a limit on how many children can attend the program?

We don’t have a specific cap on numbers but if a day is particularly popular then there may be a waitlist generated whilst we organise for additional staff to be trained and complete their orientation to ensure we maintain quality supports for your child.

What training do staff have?

Our support staff are fully qualified, and all have current Medication Administration Training, Advanced First Aid and CPR, and Blue and Yellow Cards. If required, we can also organise for staff to complete specialised training to support with complex behaviour or health requirements such as Customer specific Positive Behaviour Support Plan training, Epilepsy Management, PEG Feeding, and Diabetes Management.
