Luke, a talented artist from Multicap’s Melbourne Community Hub, had his painting featured in the prestigious Boroondara Summer Salon exhibition.
Held at the Town Hall Gallery, this annual event celebrates the creativity and diversity within the Boroondara community.
The Boroondara Summer Salon features local artists and includes paintings, prints, sculptures, photography, Ikebana flower arrangements, and more.
Luke’s inclusion is a significant milestone, both for him and for the Multicap community.
Luke has severe Cerebral Palsy and requires full support for all activities.
Multicap supports Luke in community access, blogging, seeing friends, working on communication goals, artwork, travel, and recently, some gardening.
When asked what inspired his artwork, Luke shared, “I’m inspired by beauty around me. I see all kinds of colour when I go walking.”
“I like to play and experiment with colour. I painted flowers here. I’m inviting people to reflect on God’s beauty. I wanted to bring joy with this piece.”
Luke expressed his excitement about having his artwork displayed with a simple, heartfelt “Great!”
For Luke, art became a hobby in 2020, and has ambitious plans for the future.
“I want to set up a website and sell my art.”
Luke’s mum, Leslie was overjoyed for her son’s contribution to the exhibition.
“I was very excited for Luke. What a wonderful opportunity and great to see him recognised,” said Leslie.
“I love his use of colour and texture. I am so proud that he tried art again. He did it in school but felt unsupported. Now Luke’s work is entirely his own.”
“Over the years Luke has had lots of different ideas. It’s really hard to bring them to fruition because he needs a fantastic, imaginative team around him.
“It takes a huge amount of time and dedication from Luke’s Support Workers and family, to help him achieve his goals.
“To see other people support Luke and help him achieve his goals is incredible,” said Leslie.
Luke’s Disability Support Worker found this opportunity and filled in the original application online with Luke’s and her input.
Congratulations, Luke, on this remarkable achievement!
