High–tech scales support Makeables packing facility

Multicap employment business, Makeables is excited to purchase cutting–edge weighing equipment through grant funding from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund (GCBF).

The inline electronic checkweigher scales with automatic rejection will be installed at the Tingalpa facility, allowing employees to sort and pack products for PepsiCo with greater accuracy.

Multicap Employment Operations Manager, Nick Ferre said bringing new equipment into the workplace makes for an excellent learning opportunity.

“Introducing these scales will enable our supported employees to broaden their skills,” said Nick.

“Using state of the art equipment at our co–packing facility enables Multicap to remain competitive in the commercial market and provide a supported workplace that enhances work–based skills similar to that of mainstream employment.”

The scales will also strengthen Makeables’ commercial capability.

“They ensure a consistent quality of product is produced that meets strict food packing standards,” said Nick.

The GCBF is Queensland’s largest one–off community grants program and distributes millions of dollars to not–for–profit organisations annually.

Local MP Steve Minnikin visited Makeables Tingalpa to present a cheque for $18,000 and perform a special DJ set for some very excited employees.

The team has previously introduced a pallet wrapper and ergonomic workstations, made possible by the Federal Government Stronger Communities Programme (SCP).

The scales are expected to arrive at Makeables in April.
