On a mission to find a rewarding career, Lisa signed up for the Queensland Government’s Skilling Queenslanders for Work (SQW) work-based training as a late enrolment and was able to complete a Certificate III in Individual Support in only ten weeks.

Showing passion, dedication and commitment to her studies, Lisa caught up on course theory remotely and by attending additional days at the AMC Training office and completed her placements at an aged care facility and Multicap’s Old Petrie Town Hub.

In less than a month after completing the course, Lisa had secured a job at Breakaway in Clontarf making her hard work during the course well worth it.

“From my very first conversation with Louise, Multicap’s Project Coordinator SQW, I knew I had made a good decision to explore this opportunity, and my life has been tremendously enriched.

“Throughout this journey, I have learned a great deal about our broader community and the people that form our community. I have also learned a lot about myself, my abilities, strengths, weaknesses, and tenacious personality.

“I would like to say with heartfelt gratitude a huge thankyou to Multicap and the SQW Program for organising this opportunity to obtain a certification in Individual Support,” said Lisa.

Only a few weeks into her new job at Breakaway – a service of Multicap – Lisa acknowledges it has been a steep learning curve but absolutely loves what she does.

“It is an extremely rewarding job. It is lovely to see a customer’s face light up when supporting them be happy and relaxed. I’ve had the opportunity to experience working with customers at in-home support, community access, work at the Hub and Supported Independent Living,” Lisa said.

Lisa’s passion for kayaking, the beach, travel, gym, renovating, reading, and spending time with her family shows there is no doubt she loves making the most out of life.

Lisa is contemplating more study to further enhance her new career but while she is still relatively new to the disability industry, she remains focused on enjoying life with her customers.
