Mental health awareness a strong focus

It was smiles all around with a serious message at multiple Multicap locations on R U OK? Day.

R U OK? Day is a National Day of Action, encouraging people to look for signs of mental health struggle and to have regular, meaningful conversations with colleagues, family and friends.

Multicap’s Pine Rivers Hub team dressed in signature R U OK? yellow and celebrated with a breakfast followed by hub activities where customers baked and danced.

North Coast Service Manager, Sheryl Figuerres said mental health issues are widespread and R U Ok? Day is a good opportunity to come together and have a meaningful connection.

“It’s important to check in with each other every single day, not just once a year,” said Sheryl. “This helps our team and leads to better outcomes for everyone, but especially our customers.”

“Some of the people we support have known each other since school and have very close relationships, and some have been on their own their whole life,” Sheryl said.

“It’s important to my team that we understand how mental illness can affect people from many different experiences and circumstances.”

Multicap’s focus on mental wellbeing continues through Mental Health Month.

Like R U OK? Day, Mental Health Month aims to spread awareness about the importance of good mental health and encourages help seeking behaviours when needed.

HR Business Partner Manager, Sherman Koorbanally said Multicap actively encourages mental health awareness among staff.

“Our commitment to mental health in this industry is not just a practice; it’s a fundamental part of our mission to empower lives and create inclusive communities,” said Sherman.

“The first step to achieving this is ensuring people have the right tools to educate themselves on mental health”.
