At Multicap, we believe good support happens when everyone works together and keeps the person at the centre of every decision. Recent research about our Complex Behaviour Forum shows that this approach really does make a difference.

What is a Complex Behaviour Forum?

Multicap’s Complex Behaviour Forum is a regular meeting where people from different departments and disciplines within Multicap come together to review complex cases and talk about how best to support someone with complex needs. These meetings could include support workers, therapists and clinicians, behavioural specialists and service leaders.

Instead of one team trying to find solutions on their own, people with different knowledge and experience work together to discuss and agree on the best way to support someone moving forward. The research has shown that working under a shared, team-based approach has helped to reduce the challenging behaviour of an individual over time, in a safe and sustainable way. Improvements gained because of the forum have also been proven to continue after people have exited the forum process.

What does that mean for you or your loved one?

Working in this way allows everyone involved to be on the same page. The result is that support is better planned and less reactive, with changes being made carefully rather than hastily and leading to support feeling calmer, safer and more predictable.
