Wheelchair accessible table welcomed at Multicap

Wheelchair users are trialling a new adjustable table at Multicap’s Centre of Creative Arts (COCA) to improve the experience of artists participating in creative programs.

The table was purchased late last year for three wheelchair users to trial following feedback that the existing table height was too low.

“When our artists are on site creating beautiful pieces, it is essential that they are comfortable.

“We always ensure our wheelchair users feel comfortable and absolutely part of everything that is going on at COCA, including our dance program,” Suzanne said. “For example, we have modified art equipment and movement sequences to make sure activity and location is accessible and offers a good vantage point for audiences to see wheelchair performances.

“The existing tables were suitable for Rebecca when she was younger, but as she has grown taller, she is bending over more during the sessions.

“Rebecca loves art, and she has really progressed in her ability to focus during classes and has created very impressive art. She feels extremely proud,” Wendy said.
