Introducing the Avegates Weekend Kids Club: Full day activities for children with disabilities

Get ready kids…Weekend Kids Club is ready for take off!

The Avegates Weekend Kids Club will launch in October this year with full day activities, every second Saturday for children aged 5 to 17 with disability.

Clubs will be held at Multicap’s Eight Mile Plains and Aspley hubs, with plans for a Rockhampton club to open next year.

Acting Programming Manager Joe Molloy said the Kids Club was an extension of the Avegates’ successful school holiday program.

“The program meets a significant need in the community in providing a fun, engaging and safe place for young people with a disability to spend time during the weekend,” Joe said.

“It will also support children and their families to build and develop their social skills and relationships.”

Joe said the Kids Club would also assist families who needed a break over the weekend.

“We trialled the Weekend Kids Club and the response was really positive with many families asking when they can bring their children again,” Joe said.

“It’s really set up to be a lot of fun for the kids with themed days and excursions.”

Kids Club will kick off with superhero day/beach day on Saturday, 7 October 2023, followed by a pirate treasure hunt day/Movie World on 21 October 2023.

Club times are 9am to 5pm, and the cost is $10 for activities at the Hub, while excursions costs will vary.
